West Valley currently has 3 special needs buses. In many cases, we provide door-to-door service for our families with special needs students. With this in mind, we ask for the assistance of our families in the following areas to enable us to schedule routes and transport students in a timely manner:
- Due to the variety of student needs and daily ridership, the bus may run ten minutes early or late. Students must be ready for pickup and at their designated pick-up area ten minutes prior to the scheduled bus arrival time; after school drop-off times could be as soon as ten minutes following the school dismissal time.
- Students must be met at the bus stop by the parent, guardian or another individual who has been authorized, in writing, to accept them from the bus. If no authorized person is visible when the bus arrives, the student will be taken to the transportation office (7205 East Mission) at the end of the bus route and will need to picked up prior to 4:30 p.m. If a parent/guardian prefers that the student be dropped off without being met at the bus stop, written authorization must be provided to the transportation office in advance.
- The bus driver or the Transportation Office must be notified when the child will not need transportation. Parents may call the Special Busing message line (340-7154) at any time of the day or night and leave a Voice Mail message or send an e-mail to SpecialBusing@wvsd.org.
If the bus has attempted to pick up a student on two consecutive days without notice that transportation was not needed, bus service will be suspended until a call is received from the parent/guardian.
