Envisioning the Future of Our Facilities

This update was included in the Spring 2024 Community Newsletter

We are excited to share that starting in the fall of 2025, kindergarten students will be transitioned back into our elementary schools! This change is necessary in order to move the West Valley Early Learning Center, whose lease with St. Paschal’s is expiring in 2025, to the Millwood location. Construction of additional classrooms will occur over the next year at Ness Elementary and Pasadena Park Elementary in order to accommodate space for these additional students.

We extend our heartfelt gratitude for your approval of the Education Programs and Operations levy during the Feb. 13 election. Thanks to your dedication, the EP&O levy passed with 55.5% of the votes. Your support enables us to continue providing the high-quality education our students deserve as the levy represents 14.7% of our district's budget, touching every department, building, and student across the district.

As we celebrate this success, we also recognize the challenges ahead. We need to gather feedback from our community on how to prioritize future facility projects, especially in light of the 60%+ voter support level required for bonds. Our community support came in at 50%, highlighting the need for constructive dialogue on next steps.

We also noticed a decline in voter participation this election, which underscores the importance of engaging our community in meaningful dialogue. Your voice matters to us, and we appreciated the input of the community members who attended our “See Our Schools” events last fall.

The facilities committee, in conjunction with the school board, is keen to hear your thoughts on how we can best proceed. Hence, we invite you to participate in a survey aimed at gathering insights and perspectives on our facility planning and capital projects (see survey link above). We understand the urgency of addressing proposed projects, especially as construction costs continue to rise.

Whether you're a student, a staff member, a parent, or a concerned community member, your input will play a pivotal role in shaping the future of our district. Together, we can overcome challenges and build a brighter future for generations to come.
