Valley Firefighters Spread Warmth

Again this year West Valley students are the beneficiaries of Spokane Valley Firefighters Local 876 Operation Warm project. Firefighters involved in the project collect new winter coats then donate them to school children. Students from Pasadena Park, Millwood Kindergarten Center, and the Early Learning Center were recipients of the generous donation.

Superintendent Sementi Announces Retirement

The West Valley School Board Directors accepted the resignation of Dr. Gene Sementi during their board meeting December 11. Sementi will step down as Superintendent effective June 30, 2020, and begin his retirement.
The board also voted unanimously to appoint current Assistant Superintendent Kyle Rydell as incoming Superintendent.

School Board Update

At the final school board meeting of the year, Dan Hansen received a gift of appreciation as outgoing president. Robert Dompier is the incoming president. Also at the meeting, Superintendent Sementi administered the oath of office to Adam Mortensen and Bob Wentworth who were recently elected for another term.

West Valley "Hero's" earn Above and Beyond Award

West Valley honored five caring employees for going Above and Beyond. Doug MacDonald, George Castor, Bob McMurdo, Laurie Lang, and Darren Anderson teamed up to search for MacDonald's daughter who was missing. After nearly 10 hours in the harsh elements, the young lady was found by the search crew, likely saving her life.

Brief Lockdown at CMS

Centennial Middle School was in a brief lock down today due to a student doing what we ask them to do, "If you see something, say something." We take all reports seriously and upon investigation it appears to have been an unfounded rumor.

Breakfast with Santa

The West Valley Band Boosters are hosting Breakfast with Santa on Saturday, December 21st. The event begins at 9:00 am (doors open at 8:30 am) and will be held in the main events gym.

Otto Earns National Board Certification

Kelsey Otto, an English teacher at Dishman Hills High School, recently received her National Board Certification. Board certification requires teachers to submit a four-part portfolio and a six-exercise content and pedagogy assessment. The 10 entries document a teachers success in the classroom as evidenced by her students' learning. Congratulations Kelsey

The annual West Valley High School wrestling spirit match, the Golden Plunger, is Wednesday, December 11, at 7:00 pm against East Valley. The community is invited to attend. Good luck Eagles.
