The Spokane County Library District will use their All of Us Community Engagement Outreach Award grant dollars on a project that partners with Dishman Hills High School. The Fit & Lit: Health Literacy for Teens project will focus on supporting academic success and teaching better health. Activities will include specially created health and science classes, programs on how to identify quality health research, production of health related videos, and free YMCA memberships and bus passes for the summer of 2020.
Students from several school districts participated in a month-long academy including a hands-on experience in the manufacturing and production industries. The eager students were challenged to design, produce, manufacture, market and sell a product. A partnership with Wagstaff Inc, GSI, Spokane Workforce Council and Spokane Valley School Districts provided the unique opportunity. Each student was awarded a $2,000 stipend in addition to a certificate at the end of the academy.

School security has increased thanks to a new partnership with the Spokane County Sheriff's Office. Under a new agreement, law enforcement will be able to tap into the existing school security system to analyze situations and direct emergency responders.
