Resources for Families Impacted by Upriver Fire

If your family has been displaced from your home and is staying with relatives or friends, living in a hotel, shelter, campground, or other temporary housing, your children may qualify for support through the district's HEART Program, which provides educational protections and support for students experiencing housing instability, including students displaced by natural disasters and emergencies.
Potential HEART Program supports may include:
- Transportation assistance for students to remain in their school if they have moved outside their school boundaries.
- Free school meals and other waived fees for school activities, ASB, Advanced Placement (AP), SAT, ACT.
- Help connecting with school and community resources, such as referrals to food and clothing banks.
- Assistance to obtain vital records, such as birth certificates.
What does this mean for next school year?
If your family's housing situation remains temporary or unstable when school begins on August 26, 2026, your child may continue to be eligible for HEART Program services throughout the 2026-27 school year.
If your family has been affected by the fire, please contact our district's HEART program liaison, Rosalie Sigler, [email protected], or by phone, 509-340-7103, to learn more about available supports and help your child maintain educational stability.
